Gunn for Hire – Episode 4

Time we round out this crew. Next up is Miles Pike. He’s a cat who makes it his business to cure your ills, but don’t pay any attention to his vices. This back alley doc spends part of his free time playing sax pick up gigs in dance halls and speakeasys and the rest of his free time replacing the “a” with an “e” in “sax” when it come to playing with the ladies in those clubs.

And if that doesn’t draw enough heat, he’s smack dab in the middle of the three-sided war brewing in Capone’s outfit. If that doesn’t say ‘Physician Heal Thyself’ nothing does.

In this issue… in the middle of the night, the train to Denver Young & Holt found themselves on, had stopped just outside a small town. Something was amiss and our heroes, along with a Mister John Barnes were sent to investigate. Nobody was found at the train station, except for a pair of boots in the ticket office, that Joshua was about to go and kick.

Well, there’s a few burning questions that need answers, so we’d best see where they’re at…

Gunn for Hire – Episode 3

Meet Bam Bam

Every crew needs their bruiser, and with these four, that’d be Tommy “Bam Bam” Prue. Some might want to call him Bam Bam because of his time in the boxing ring. It usually was the last thing the poor schmucks facing him ever heard. But sometimes I wonder if he got the Bam Bam name from what Grace did to him a while back.

He spent some time in the Big House for trying to take care of her, but now he’s out and looking for a rematch with life. Why he’s hanging out with the woman he tried to kill. Well, that’s a story for another time.

Gunn for Hire – Episode 2

Meet Grace Gunn

I told you I’d be back, and you’re soon gonna learn, I don’t lie. Name’s E.I. Wick and it’s time to keep this story moving. Even in these hard times, some folks don’t like the taste of the silver spoon in their mouth and need to make it on their own. The dame you’re about to meet does all that and more. Her name’s Grace Gunn. And like it suggests, she’s the Private Jane with the looks and the tools to make your heart stop. And of all the hard baked cases that have come through her door, this one might just take the cake, the filling and the frosting.

And Grace Gunn is likely going to need her first and last names, if she wants to come out clean on when this is all over.

Who is Irving Holt?

I’ve learned many lessons in this long storm of life. I learned not to take the status quo for granted when the Great War took my father before I was a man. I learned that people will believe whatever helps them as I signed up well before eighteen. I learned that people are willing to do anything to win as the Great War turned into the Weird War. I learned that there are still good people when my leg was saved. I learned that everyone lies when the man I trusted to protect my sister disappeared with her. I learned that machines are a far greater curse than they are a blessing.

But more importantly? I learned that people don’t want to know the truth. My family was ruined for telling the truth. Called liars and cheats. The crazy man and his dime novel tales. I didn’t run from it. I faced the storm head on. That’s how I ended up in the Windy City. That’s why I trust my camera more than the lies people cling to. I won’t back down. I’ll make sure they see the truth, whether they like it or not. In the end? My family was right. I’m proud to be Irving Leyland Holt. And the shadows of the world are exposed with the flash of my camera.
