Gunn for Hire – Episode 2

Meet Grace Gunn

I told you I’d be back, and you’re soon gonna learn, I don’t lie. Name’s E.I. Wick and it’s time to keep this story moving. Even in these hard times, some folks don’t like the taste of the silver spoon in their mouth and need to make it on their own. The dame you’re about to meet does all that and more. Her name’s Grace Gunn. And like it suggests, she’s the Private Jane with the looks and the tools to make your heart stop. And of all the hard baked cases that have come through her door, this one might just take the cake, the filling and the frosting.

And Grace Gunn is likely going to need her first and last names, if she wants to come out clean on when this is all over.

Who is Irving Holt?

I’ve learned many lessons in this long storm of life. I learned not to take the status quo for granted when the Great War took my father before I was a man. I learned that people will believe whatever helps them as I signed up well before eighteen. I learned that people are willing to do anything to win as the Great War turned into the Weird War. I learned that there are still good people when my leg was saved. I learned that everyone lies when the man I trusted to protect my sister disappeared with her. I learned that machines are a far greater curse than they are a blessing.

But more importantly? I learned that people don’t want to know the truth. My family was ruined for telling the truth. Called liars and cheats. The crazy man and his dime novel tales. I didn’t run from it. I faced the storm head on. That’s how I ended up in the Windy City. That’s why I trust my camera more than the lies people cling to. I won’t back down. I’ll make sure they see the truth, whether they like it or not. In the end? My family was right. I’m proud to be Irving Leyland Holt. And the shadows of the world are exposed with the flash of my camera.

Gunn for Hire – Who is Grace Gunn?

My name? Gunn. Grace Gunn, Private Investigator. Just a dame trying to make her mark in the White City.

This time of year the city should be white, but the strange wind blowing is putting things a little on the warm side. That same wind is kicking up some mysterious whispers from the shadows to boot.

I spent a lot of my childhood with my Grams, Victoria. She would tell me stories of the wild west; of magic, monsters and the men that meted out justice. I always felt like I was reading a dime novel the way she told her stories. Got the feeling that she had witnessed these stories first hand but she couldn’t have could she? Magic and mystery and the West being Wild and Weird?

Much to my parent’s dismay, Grams taught me how to shoot, how to track down clues and not take guff from anyone. Those skills have served me well.

And there’s something not right in the Windy city these days as the threat of the Alleycat Killer has everyone on edge and jumping at shadows. Maybe the weirdness Grams told me about has found isn’t so weird after all and it’s found a new home in the city I call home. You can bet whatever it has in store I’ll be here, doing my best to protect my home and family.

Gunn for Hire – Who is Bam-Bam?

Who is Tommy “Bam-Bam” Prue?
That’s a question he’s been asking himself a lot lately. He used to know the answer before life hit him upside the head, put a slug in his chest, and fitted him for Iron Bars for the Big House.

To understand Tommy you only have to look at the bruises life gave him, then you’ll understand it only makes since that Tommy developed a strong faith, picked himself up and started throwing punches back at the world.

Boxing. Throwing punches in the ring for his glitz and glamour seeking single mother and for his greedy self serving manager, Beetle. Out of the ring, landing blows for a crime boss as an enforcer. The latter got him shot by one fiery broad named Grace Gunn and sent up the river for a stint.

Now that Tommy is back out in the world, Grace is the only one that seems to care about him being straight and narrow. Everybody else wants a piece of him to grind up, but Tommy’s faith keeps him swinging, that and his search . . .
